Infinity Sky

about

Infinity Sky is a slightly darker tune to GSG. My phone is filled with Voice Memos and I often search them looking for ideas. Nina and I were in Japan in 2018 and I recorded a tour guide, it sounded like she said “infinity sky”, so I thought that was a really cool concept to explore.

I’m really into Weval, so I guess I tried to use their inspiration to find a sonic pallet on this one. I have some really cool analogue synths, so I layered them up to get a thick key pad sound. That’s the main chordal riff in the tune. I sang some strange stuff over the top with vocoder and added edited vocal bits from my 2018 Japanese Voice Memos. There’s some nice acoustic guitar and subtle electric guitar in there too. I recorded my bass recorder (which is a bizzare looking thing) and it sort of sounded like a Mellotron, so that’s in there too, I think it really helps the vintage vibe. The song is meant to be groovy, introspective and psychedelic.

The clip became an unintended tribute to a dear friend we lost at the end of 2020. The footage used was courtesy of Andy Burns, who used to film underground rave parties we put on in 1997. The footage was really messy but priceless. I also asked local artist Electric Light Brigade to add bespoke video synthesised cityscapes to enhance to nightlife vibe of the clip.
